The miracle of friendship.
The thing about love is … I’ve experienced love in a death spiral plummeting to earth like a skydiver with a malfunctioning parachute.
I've also experienced the exact opposite like the last three days of my life. Love has bloomed and shown itself through the eyes, the hearts, and the actions of my friends, old and new, close and as far away as across oceans.
My Mom, who is 89, ended up in the hospital for the second or third time, and due to a series of events, I was eight hours away and needed boots on the ground, someone to help advocate for her in the hospital. So when my sister-in-law offered, I took her up on it, and she spent the day comforting and protecting her. Most of you know I'm going through a divorce; however, my in-laws have remained some of my closest family and friends, and for that, I am forever grateful.
Two of my closest friends scoped out, researched online, and physically visited a rehab unit to see if it was actually a feasible option.
Many friends posted their love and support on social media. One show of support comes from a friendship that dates all the way back to Italy when I was young, maybe 24 or 25, to the warm summer days of Greece. He resurfaced as a now-adult friend in my life via social media and expressed support. A new friend offered to send us dinner at her rehab unit; unbelievably nice
My point is we are surrounded by love. Even in our most down moments when we feel really alone and dark, I ask you to look around like I did the last couple of days and don't be afraid to call on your friends because I bet most of you have been there for them as well. And friends are, for women at least, I wish it were so for men, a literal village. They offer emergency parachutes thrown out after us when we find ourselves racing in a freefall to earth in crisis. This morning I visualize them as literally suited up in skydiving gear, jumping out of the plane with parachutes, catching me from my freefall. And I'm sure your friends catch you as well.
So this love post is dedicated to all of you. And to the miracle of friendship ... old friendships, new friendships, loves, in-laws, neighbors, everyone in our life who shows up. I love you. #friendship #love #divorcejourney #aging #peace #light #hope #miracleoffriendship #gratitude #life #52weeksoflove
