A wild and beautiful stranger

Have you ever had the experience of gazing at a picture of yourself and find you don't recognize the woman who is staring back at you? So much dramatic change has happened you sometimes stop, stare and wonder who this stranger is? This happened to me recently during an afternoon at the beach. I took the necessary selfie-and snapped a shot capturing a part of myself I hadn't seen before (or at least had not seen in years). Who is this woman with the wild hair, the expression on her face that causes one to take a second glance?

Divorce changes us in every way, stretching and contorting us emotionally, mentally, and physically. Sometimes the changes are positive, sometimes painful and wounding, and sometimes the ripples are wild and unsettling ... and unexpected. Thanks partly to Gwyneth Paltrow, the actress who helped shine a light on the Conscious Uncoupling movement, we have a kinder way of hopefully navigating through the sea of divorce, the idea that two different loves can coexist and nourish each other. While I appreciate the thought, love, and kindness behind the idea and support it, I offer one small glimpse or snapshot into the unnatural uncoupling phase of the dissolution of a marriage. Call it the transformative personal breakdown of self essential for the wild and beautiful new picture to emerge.

Take today to pause, look into the mirror, and acknowledge how far you have come and how much you have grown. Say hello to your beautiful stranger:).
